Supposedly a lot of history behind algal filters collapsing. From what I understand a lot of large public aquariums were using them and for whatever reason they can collapse in a matter of 24/48 hours. Kind of funney when you think about it how much people would love for the nuisance algae to collapse in the tank for no reason but when trying to grow it , it can die without warning.
Good luck with it. Look forward to hearing if you keep it thriving for a year or so.
