Does it have fern-like endings or just straight tips?

Fern= bryopsis = very bad.

Straight= hair algae= only somehwat bad.

Algae outbreaks are fairly common in new tanks, due to high nutrients. You'll want to step up your water changes, pull back on feeding, yank out as much as you can, and keep your skimmer running at 100%. And it could take a while.

The macroalgae can help outcompete the nuisance algae for nutrients, if you can set up a refugium for the macro. Not sure what tank size you have, but I've been very pleased with my CPR aquafuge hang-on refugium.
