It sounds to me like you have that rare very short cyclic form of ick. I have only seen it twice in 35 years. The fish only get infected at night usually and come moring it is gone. You can almost time it when it is on and off. I hope there are no tangs in this tank. And yes ick can infect the eyes, to include FW fish. You better hope this strain of ick does no take off and infect the other fish if you have any oryou will be in big trouble. A tang won't last more than a day or two.

The solution to the problem is to wait 3-4 hours after it seems to be all gone of the fish and then remove them from the tank and then dipped in a fresh mix of SW (a rinsing) and put in another tank for a week or so. And hope it works, it did for me.

It is up to you if you just want to watch or do something about it.

I doubt it is sand, it is a angel. Are you sure it is not just air bubbles
