There was some debate about using Phos sponges 24/7 some years back, but I personally decided it was unfounded and have taken the approach that anything that NEEDS to come out of the water column, should come out as soon as possible.

I don't run Phos sponges near as much as I used to and have enjoyed the employment of micro algae. I have run it 24/7 in the past and never found any issues using it as long as it was quality stuff that didn't leach metals into the tank.
