I'm having a really bad weekend - day was going OK yesterday - very hot and frustrating trying to keep the tanks cool without ac in the house. Dogs were hot I was hot so I got in the pool (felt great) dunked the dogs in the pool - they did not appreciate it but were happy to be cool. Sat down to check what was happening here and noticed both dogs outside barking at something. Thought it was a wounded hawk from the color and size of it so I went outside to get them away from it - turns out it was a rattlesnake. Dogs had never seen one before and wouldn't leave it alone. I'm yelling at them to get in the house and trying to find something to block the sanke with. Found a large rake, but by then it had started striking at the dogs. Got the bigger dog, Krom, on the chin, he went in the house and the little one followed him. Krom had some blood drippiong from his chin and I'm tring to call their vet, closed - called another vet - they ran out of antivenin the day before and have me call another vet - meanwhile trying to get some clothes on and find my keys.... Get him to the vet and they dont have antivenin either. No one has the stuff - too expensive to keep around... I'm bawling at the vets, they are saying the antivenin isn't that important... I get home several hours later to find the sweetlips in the QT has died - I think the tank got too hot while I was gone, but not sure... Crappy Saturday... I finally quit crying about 1 am but couldn't sleep. Mark went to the river for the weekend for a boys trip and I didn't want them driving home last night after drinking on the boat all day so he wont be home till noonish... Just had to share my misery...
