First of all your salt level was too high to begin with. Remove some of the saltwater and replace it with fresh. Do it slowly so you do not shock the tank. The mess you are referriing to is priobably just stirred up sand and time will take care of that.
The most important thing to learn from this is that you need your own test kits. You never know when something will go wrong and you need to know what your values are and the store is closed;
