It seems it might be helpful to induce spawnings and it seems logical that it would be beneficial, but otherwise, I haven't seen any hard evidence of a benefit. I keep my moonlights on all night every night for aesthetic value and so the fish have some light to navigate by. I've noticed my mandarin eating quite a bit at night, so I think the light may be especially beneficial to her. But, perhaps the lunar cycle would cause the pods to spawn more...
I don't see what harm there would be in leaving them on 24 hrs if you aren't going to use a true lunar cycle. They will be completely drowned out by other lighting during the day and will probably just add a little "shimmer". The disadvantage would be shortened life on the LED's because they are on twice as long. |
