Re: Topic of the Week August 14 - Refugiums

How much area of DSB do you need for it to be a viable way to breakdown excess nutrients? Most of us can only fit so much sump under the stand. It's cut into 3 areas. By the time you fit baffles for the skimmer & return sections, You end up with a small area for a refugium. A dsb, lr & some macro is added. The flow is cut way back. Seems that in a short time this small area of dsb is no longer useful considering the entire system .That's not even considering how much an Angler or some other fish we want but can't keep in the DT will add to the mix. Maybe that small area is better used for rubble or such for pods & leave the dsb out.
