Most aquarium lighting isnt the right kelvin. I have a 40g seagrass/mangrove tank and I have 6700k over that. Most DT's have 10-14k plus actinics.

When I had mangroves in my DT, they didnt survive because of the lighting variation.



And yes, you can have the mangrove submerged, but not too deep. I would not have the leaves submerged more than a few inches at most.
