If you don't turn off the filter system the food gets sucked into it before it is eaten...then it breaks down needlessly, turns to bad stuff.. yada yada. Best just to turn off the filter and let them eat. Just don't forget to turn it back on. I lost a beautiful Tomini tang that way. I got a controller soon after that.
