It has been my experience that LED's are essentially useless for plant growth. They tend to be monochromatic or at best, very narrow spectrum. there have been many that have tried to grow with LEDs and have not had success. There's a concept that light (in air) diminishes by the square of the distance to the source. If your diodes are a foot away, you are going to lose a lot of the light, and even more through water. Compact flouros seem to be the way to go as far as heat, spectrum and penetration. I have grown really nice plants with nothing but flouros, you just need to keep the lamps close...

I guess I've answered my own question eh?

Hoping to tap into some experience and save myself some potential headaches.
