I trusted you anyway but thanks for the verification. Apparently it is not that common since I could find very little info. It is a pretty cool but slow growing piece. At least in my system. Since I could find so very little information can you tell me if it is a leather or something else? I believe one of the few pieces of info I found said it was but I am just curious. Hi Lynn....

yep ..... it is a leather coral, the family is Alcyoniidae

Scientific classification
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Cnidaria
Class: Anthozoa
Subclass: Alcyonaria
Order: Alcyonacea

as you can see, they are all different in the colour of the polyps, but the important difference to other leather corals is the markedness of the polyps.
