As an Opperating Engineer in my younger days, if a pupm was not self priming, if it had a check valve on the discharge side, and you got it primed to pump, and the check valve did not leak it would stay primed, but that is alot of info to you and may not understand it. In a reef tank with algae, snails, ect most check valves fail and leak.
