FIRST OFF! Not thermometer!!! HEATER!!!!!!! Wow, I wasn't thinking when I was typing that apparently.
Ok so, while doing our make over we ran into some issues. First off, it was a well needed make-over, because the rocks were nasty, even though I vaccumm them often, couldn't see a thing through the water!
So, what we did, was of course took of the HOB filter and cleaned it out, then proceeded to put the heater in the filter..like always for us. I reached under the tank, plugged the heater in, Jeremy (bf) then grabbed a cup to start filling the filter so it could begin to run.
Well...that quick! there was a huge POP, and then smoke..and sizzling
So I jumped off my chair, turned off the powerstrip, quick grabbed more water to stop it from catching fire. So poured more water on, watched the smoke roll out. Well here are some pics of the aftermath! It melted a good spot onto the filter, almost all the way through!
So added onto our 6 hours of work to change the substrate over, we had to make an emergency trip to wal mart (only thing open) for a new heater to last the night. Enjoy! And.. learn from my mistake!
