We're working out a few karma bugs right now (actually, an outside developer is working on it for us). One of the things to be fixed is to have recent karma hits & comments show in User CP.
As far as karma not working, it does seem to be a skin-related issue. I will be starting a separate thread to try to narrow the problem(s) down.
