Welcome to RS! You're doing VERY good by asking and researching AHEAD of time! Kudos to you for that. On another note we take points AWAY from "Dawg" fans!
Welcome to the REEF!
Your best bet is to give it some serious thought on what you want the tank to look like LONG term and slowly work towards that goal. Filtration and lights are very BIG key items so plan them into your ultimate system. If you're really wanting to go "All Out" you may want to look into some LED (Solaris) lights through one of our Sponsors. These lights give a FULL spectrum so you can potentially have ANY coral (clams etc) and not have to worry about chillers (MH's produce LOTS of heat) and have lower electrical demans.
Keep researching and don't hesitate to ask questions
Again welcome to the REEF and

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!! Quote:

Nitrate (
NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...
(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (
That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (
NO3) somewhere around 50%.
Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!
