No. It wouldn't change the flow any. All it would do is provide pure surface skimming. Pretty much 100% of the water going to the sump/fuge/skimmer would be surface water. That's all that long box would provide.

And it would allow you to have a small overflow box like you mentioned that you would like earlier. But the long, small boxes would provide the surface skimming.
