I'm with Lynn on this. It is a great book and to my knowledge one of the most authoratative books on the subject. James Fatheree has devoted much of his time to studying the giant clams.

I attended his lecture at MACNA entitled "Genetic Diversity in Giant Clams". I recall him saying that within the same species they vary considerably in their growth rates and hardiness. For example, 2 Maximas in the same tank, one may do very well and the other fail to thrive or two Croceas, one may grow very fast and the other may grow at a slow rate. He said just because you haven't had success with clams doesn't mean that you won't. I swore after I had a Crocea and a Derasa die that I would not have another clam, but his lecture changed my mind and I purchased two Maxima at the MACNA trade show. It's been about 3 months and they are doing well.

He is also conducting an experiment with different lighting schemes and the different Tridacnid species. Don't know when that will be released, but keep an eye out for that.
