It is probably larger than you think, most of it's body wa probably hidden in the rock. Try feeding your tank right after the lights go off then take a look and see if he comes out. Depending on the size of your tank it should not be a problem. I have one in my 14gal nano and it is about 6-10 inches long and it is not a problem...he does a good job helping keep the sand clean....
