Re: BigAl's slow chronicle . . .

Thank you both kathy and Scott Your kind words are appreciated.

I have ran into a situation and I get different advice from everyone I talk to locally here and the problem is that few people locally are running anything like what I want to do.Some people are using Wet/Dry filter systems but no one really uses a refugium/sump set up. In fact, when I mention refugium here locally people are like, " What did he just call Me?"

So here I go...

My stand (main part) is 48" wide. The system came with a 29g sump tank that's 30" long. I want a refugium without a doubt but I also need room for an in-sump skimmer. I am insistent on a refugium because I have seen the benefits of one first hand in my first tank. The I could go with JUST a refugium in the stand but it requires much slower flow than a sump therefore I need something that can handle the total volume of my tank with sufficient flow. Here is what I am thinking...

"T" off the drain line into a small custom built refugium tank that's slightly elevated to allow it to drain (via a bulkhead) into the main drain area of the existing 29g Sump tank along with the majority of the main line from the Display Tank. Is there any OTHER way of doing this? I dont want the skimmer to be IN my fuge and I also dont want to skip the SUMP due to the fuge being a slow flow item.

Ideas? Suggestion? Donations?

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!
