| Something similar can be achieved in Photoshop [not exactly the same - as you're altering what was taken and not taking something different ...] but it can be done in Photoshop.
As for cheaper software - not really sure.
I sometimes will take online retailer's `amazing pics' and use some substrate or other known white thing [eggcrate!] and set the `white point' in the levels adjustments in photoshop [also can set a black point too] - and feel that I get a more accurate color-rendering than their 20k bulbs + weird white balance to make all their SPS super blue.
Just my 2 cents ... I'd love to hear what Travis and others think ...
