UV sterilizers is a very debated subject. Some believe in it and some dont. I have always used one and I have seen ich in my tank , but it doesnt last very long. Right now I use the Current USA Gamma brand and It seems to be working very well. I have also used the hang on tank brand called turbo twist.

The cause of ich is water parameters may be off . The problem in the tank needs to be fixed or ich may keep returning. I really think the UV sterilizer will help minimize ich . Also soaking the food in garlic and the fish still may need to be treated in a quarantine tank.
