The front of my stand was made out of 1 piece of birch. I cut the holes with a cicular saw and stoped short of the corners and then used a jig saw to cut the courners. The center was cut out using a scroll saw so it would have a very tiny seam then it was attatched to a 1x4 so it could be removed. It has already proved to be with its weight in gold to have it removabe. The back was cut out the same except it was made out of regular 3/4 plywood since you wont see the face anyway. All of the seams were sealed and painted with epoxy paint. Also has proved its merit. Had a little problem once and it held all of the leaked water. NOT all over the floor.
As you can see from this pic the center brace is not there.


Here if you look you can see the 1x4 attatched to the back of the center brace and it over laps the top and bottem of the face of the stand and screwed in from the back. All I have to do is remove 4 screws and out it comes. Works great.
