Thanks for the link to your 80g stand. From the construction pictures, it looks like the frame or "skeleton" if you will, is made of 1x material and you wrapped the whole thing in a birch plywood "shell" then added the trim. If your photos are in sequence, did you build the birch "shell" first using pocket screws and then slip the 1x skeleton inside it? For my 50g, I was going to construct the "skeleton" out of 2x4's and wrap it with oak. Looking at your 80g which is another 240lbs of just water, I'm thinking maybe 2x4's is overkill. Obviously yours is structurally sound since you're using it. Do you think 2x4's is overkill?
