The type of clam will also determine if it should go in the sand or on a rock. Crocea for example is a rock dwelling clam and will be much happier on a rock higher in the tank. It doesn't have to be one of your big rocks. You can let it attach to a shell or piece of flat rock and then move the small rock up onto your rockwork.
The way it is laying it looks to me like it could have been knocked over. Sometimes fish or even snails can knock them over if they have not attached. Also they can move on their own. I have a small maxima that got knocked over by somebody (probably a turbo snail) and so far I have not found it's sweet spot yet. Pretty much every morning when I look at the tank it has moved. |
