I think the 900 is within +/- 30gph of the stock pump. I put a MJ400 on the other side of my tank, just below the overflow. Doesn't really seem to make much of a difference. I think all the stuff you read about lots of flow is for people with SPS and larger tanks. Yes, the extra 400 does help get rid of some dead spots, but I only keep it on during the day.
