Is iodine dip needed for acclimation?

I am looking at getting my first corals, either shrooms or ricordias or something "easy," and keep hearing about dipping them before putting them in my tank. Is iodine dipping necessary/helpful? What is the proceedure?

Also, is it advisable to QT them like fishies? I'm thinking no as there usually isn't the good lighting system on QT tanks.

Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!
