Blue_Eyes .. I'm new to this, and I'm not sure what is meant by "air exchange".

I have a Maxi-jet 900 pump. There is a Y nozzle from the pump in the tank. I have one end positioned at the surface of the water and the other pointed towards the back of the tank. I was told by my LFS to position one on the surface to get more air in the tank.
