The canopy Is NOT sealed all the way around, Its completely opened up In the back other than a top support brace. There Is also a 2" wide support brace In the middle In back. The complete setup sits about 4" off the wall. In that said there Is plenty of air flow being vented out and circulated for your "gas exchange". I see no reason In having to drill holes If not needed.
