I think SZHTTM gave you very good advice. You really need to get the air in there for the gas exchange also. That canopy is sealed all the way around. Not good. If you change your mind, the way i would drill it is, First find the center from the inside and drill a small hole from the inside out. Then you have your mark on the outside and can drill from the outside in with the large hole saw and not chew up the wood on the outside.
