I battled some algae for months, The cause could be alittle bit of everything... if that makes sense, lol this is what I did to fight mine.

1. Upped the water changes to weekly. 10 %- 20% every week
2. added more flow.. This Helped tremendous.
3. Monitor feeding,,, Less feedings and make sure all food is eaten.
4. Cleaned RO filters every 2-3 months
5.cleaned all sponges , filters daily
6 ran ALOT of carbon and phosban 24/7
7. Reduce lighting photoperiod. I reduced mine to 6 hours a day.. All corals are still doing fine.
8 scrape and blow off all algae weekly , even daily sometimes...
