There is a fine balancing act with keeping a chiller and heater operating together without them competing all the time. That's where a good quality controller comes in handy, either the Ranco type like I linked to before, or one of the more comprehensive controllers, like the Neptune Aquacontrollers or the Aquadyne Octopus, both of which can be used not only for thermal control, can also monitor and control a bunch of other things as well;
Monitor pH, ORP, Temperature, Conductivity and Dissolved Oxygen
Control pH, ORP, Temperature, Conductivity and Dissolved Oxygen
Timers
Sunrise and Sunset Simulation
Moon Cycle Simulation
WaveMaker
Alarms
And much, much more. Unfortunately, the better ones are QUITE expensive by the time you buy all the associated hardware, but the peace of mind is usually worth quite a bit, as well as the ease of tank operation.
