Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Some time last night my heater broke and electrocuted my tank. All fish were laying on the bottom, gasping for air. When I awoke this morning and saw this, I immediately started removing the fish because, in my haste and before I knew what happened, I thought my Tiger Tail cuck has die and polluted the tank. Fortunately, I have a QT tank set up in my basement, which is where I put them. My heater was plugged into a controller outlet that had shorted out due to the heater breakage. Not only that, the skimmer was overflowing. Don't know why, but it was full of clear water and over flowing. Fortunately, there wasn't much skimmate, because I has just emptied it. However, some did get in the water and raised the ammonia to 0.50.

I have rectified the problem. I performed a 25% WC and got the skimmer working properly. I took some water to my LFS and they say it's not too bad. Ammonia down to 0.25 after WC. All other parameter normal. My coral (hammer, torch, star polyps, gorgonians) are all now open with the lights on. My Fire Shrimp seems a little sluggish. I could not find my Flame angel or my watchman goby. My Yellow tang and six Line wrasse are still laying on the bottom of the QT. My clowns, Long Nose hawk, Fox face and Royal Gramma have perked up and are swimming around in QT.

To make things worse, during all of this my new shipment of Blue Spot jawfish, Crocea clam and mushroom rock were delivered. They are still in the box and I'm not sure what to do? The LFS says the water parameters are fine to put them in the main tank. I think I'm going to do another WC and put them in the main tank. The QT doesn't seem like a good place for these specimens. I'll keep you posted.
