Out of curiosity what size sump do you have?
Cioutlaw is correct about the AGA plumbing have holes in the elbows. This should prevent siphoning through the return plumbing. However you usually still need enough room in your sump to hold at least 5-10 gallons of water to make up for water in the plumbing, above the slots in the overflow etc...
