| Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. Well I am pretty sure we figured out what is wrong with the pony. Yes he is still alive but I honestly do not know how. When we redid our plumbing there was a time where we were getting lots of microbubbles. Mostly in the reef but some in the seahorse tank as well. Seahorses are extremely suceptible to air pockets so that is likely the problem. We are now trying to massage his stomach and hopefully release the bubble since he has such a strong will to live. As long as I see the gills moving I will not give up hope entirely though I am certainly not counting on him making it at this point.
As to the scooter blenney, I have no idea whatsoever, but none of my other bottom fish are showing any ill effects. He just got thinner and thinner and then was gone. The only thing I can come up with is the addition of a mandarin a couple of months ago. Perhaps there was just too much competition for the pods even though I saw both fish eat frozen on a regular basis as well. Now that the fuge is up and running w/a DSB and macro with live pods added to seed it I should no longer have any problem with pods in the tank. In fact they are currently everywhere.
We'll see what happens at the lfs today. You know I will post if I join the club even if I have to wait a bit for him to settle down before taking pics. Actually I think I just came up with a really good plan. If I buy him I will temporarily cover the tank with window screening until he seems stable. It will cut my light some but hey there are cloudy days in a reef right? Plus then I won't have to worry about him making a spectacular jump through the eggcrate. It always amazes me when a fish gets through the eggcrate. What precision. |
