good idea dave..since it will be total DIY..maybe a closed loop to recirculate the volume bottom to top. with a few loc-line jets strategically aimed at keeping the sand bed cleaned. Maybe a pond foam rock background with shrooms in the portions where light would reach...don't know about fish selection 1ft square is a bit cruel...maybe some mollies
