Sounds like things are progressing normally then. You may want to set your skimmer to be a bit drier then, (Remora? raise the cup a little) so the liquid you get is a darker color.
I'm with woody. No water change until the cycle is complete. You CAN use activated carbon, but it's not necessary at this time. Just run your skimmer 24/7 and let nature take it's course.
