Nikki, I was talking to Mojo on the phone about this and he suggested using thin fishing line run down the joint. Then clamp lightly, apply cement, slowly pull out the fishing line and apply a little more clamping pressure. Also if you have access to a router with a flush trim bit w/ a bearing guide then you can leave the edges a little long and trim them off after the cement sets up.
