Re: Topic of the Week 11/6 - RO/DI Filtration

I change filters in my RO/DI unit about every 6 to 8 months, but this really depends on how much water it has made and the TDS of the water coming out of it. When the TDS show 5 ppm or higher I change the filters.

About the only piece of equipment I know of for an RO/DI unit is a TDS meter.

Pressure all depends on unit but I believe most want a operating pressure of around 70 psi for optimum performance. In other words if your RO/DI unit is supposed to put out 75 gallons per day, in order to accomplish this it needs a operating pressure of 70 psi and the water should be no less than 68 degrees.

I store RO/DI water in a rubber-maid garbage can, the can is rated as a food safe container, so it shouldn't leach anything into the water. I would think that any food safe container could be used to store water. I personally would not store water for very long, reason being is there is life everywhere and bacteria will find a way to live and grow in your water, even if you have it sealed.

Hopefully this is a good start to the conversation.
