I love them but yeah at that price they will be a fad. We sell them for 9.99 a pair even though our distributor said retail price should be more like 12-14 each! Yeah right
I have no issue since they can’t live locally here in the US and are not harmful to people or other tank mates If eaten. That and the fact that FW fish have been selectively breed for centuries. Does anyone think fancy goldfish suit a purpose in nature other the just being that ugly And yet my 220 was full of orandas at one point.

Going by memory so forgive me
The engineered fish were first designed in Singapore. And sold to aquarists there last year.
The Asian strain is sterile in order to keep the patent and corner the market.
I believe I read somewhere that the US strain is different in that it can be bread and unless you are breeding large numbers to resell the paten owners are Ok with it.
