| Re: Microbe has huge role in ocean life, carbon cycle I do not think so Robert but I do see your logic. It is not stated but bacteria, as far as we know are the oldest organisms on Earth. They have been undergoing changes for a longer time than any other species. Humans have been here a rather short amount of time in comparison. One must keep in mind that we have much more DNA than a bacteria and we might be streamlining our genetic information as well. We have so much of it that is junk but from peliminary genetic studies it is still needed for some reason we do not yet understand. Bacteria have had a longer time to change and get rid of this junk DNA. I believe this is what the researchers were driving at. Cheers!  |
