| Looks like you have a very exciting project on the go. I'll bet you can't wait to get back to school to get things going on the tank again Those kids are really lucky to have such a dedicated teaching staff willing to set up a tank. I know at the Highschool I went to, none of the teachers would dare to put something like that in a class room because kids would have ruined it before it even got off the ground.
I like the idea of leaving the tank run for the summer with very little in it. I think it'll make things easier as you add a more mature/stable tank.
Do you have any sort of Marine Club in the area where you can get less expensive frags from local hobbyists once you get the lighting upgraded? What kind of tank is it going to be softy, LPS, SPS?? do you have a target stocking list or are you going figure things out as you go?
