Tim's new RSM 250

Well after a long wait for the 250 to arrive in Australia I have mine setup and cycling

After reading alot of posts on here about noise/heat/microbubbles I was a bit concerned but suprisingly I have none of these issues. Maybe Redsea have made some changes???

Skimmer is very quiet, slight fizzing when the skimmer flap is open, when its closed I cant hear anything. Loudest things are the fans when I have them on and the vortech.

My room is currently 22 degrees and the tank is sitting at just over 26 degrees. I will need a chiller in the next couple of months as temperatures here hit 45C (approx 110F i think).

I am running the skimmer 24/7, when I first set it up lotsa microbubbles. Once the skimmer started producing foam microbubbles almost completley stopped.

I plan to stock it with a few softies, Acans, Scollys, Zoas and down the track a RBTA with a nice pair of clowns.

PH - 7.8 (only been running the lights for 3-4 hours each day)
Ammonia - 0.25
Nitrite - 0.25

why did u get the enhiem for?

The Eheim is to run the chiller when I get one. Was recomended as it fits in the back compartment and has adjustable flow.

I love my osmolator!! Excellent beginning..

Tip on the ATO, Set the level you want in the rear compartment first and then set the level sensor. Got mine in the heater compartment and it works beautifully. Level in the tank has not changed since I put it in, make things so much easier! Without it you'd be continually changing the skimmer, and the gate at the back.

Hehe funny you bring up the osmolator, I was scratching my head before wondering how I was going to install it. I will have a crack tomorrow...and will probably on here asking you guys for help.

Im goingto let the cycle complete then put another 5-10kgs of rock in.

Cant wait to start stocking but in the meentime its fun watching all the critters that came in with the rock.

Tim,

My tank thread (link below), shows my installation on page 4. Other have put it in the left pump well by removing the foam. There are installations shown on the forum, just do a search for Tunze osmolator.

One other warning on the ATO, make sure the pipe from the pump sits above the level of the water in the main tank, otherwise when the pump switches off it will act like a syphon and empty your tank!!

Be careful allowing the cycle to complete then adding new rocks, depending on how many, but this can then force the tank into another cycle. this really depends on where your getting the rocks from, but bear it in mind

Aitey guys time for an update.

My cycle is complete, water params are good, unfortunatley Ive copped quite a bit of algae. Threw a few turbos/trochus in a couple of days ago but they havnt really made a dint on teh algae.

Params.

Amm - 0
Rite - 0
Rate - 5ppm
PH - 8.2

Tunze ATO is in and awesome! Water level hasnt changed since its gone in. The brackets they supply would be good for a normal tank but they suck in the RSM. Im not completley happy with how the sensors are fixed so gona have a play around with them tomorrow.

All the rock currently in the tank is goin to used to make a large bommie on the left hand side and im going to get 10kgs more on Thursday for the right hand bommie.

First fish will be a lawnmower blenny wich I hope to get ina week or so (depending on what the fresh LR does to my water params.)

2bh Im in no hurry to stock the tank so Im happy for it to go through another small cycle. I figure the longer I take to stock it the better. I will get the new rock from my LFS as they get it delivered.

Nice update Tim - you will most likely will go through the algae
new tank phase most do, don't be discouraged though, it may even take a couple of months, but then with good maintenance, water changes & carbon, it will all disappear

Get a good CUC of about 40 snails & they will help a lot & emerald crabs love green hair algae, two of them can knock back a tank full in a week.

Go slow on adding the fish... bio-load

Great start Tim, go slow, let the tank grow on it's own thru it's phases. Tank looks super, Your going to have all kinds of stuff crawling out of those rocks!
