When your cycling say 100gal of water and 50 lbs of bace rock can I run my skimmer

+1 ^ it might not do much until you have some bio-load, you don't have to run it, but it won't hurt...
I always ran mine just to allow it to break in, if your LR was very uncured it might even be a good idea
you won't go wrong imo ... while cycling, one could always dump anything it skims back in the tank if they wanted, but I never did
