i just left petco and spoke with an employee there and he told me just to leave all of the algae alone, but i would rather get my advice from here .
my nitrates were high so i just did a 30% water change.
thanks for the warm welcome

Actually the blue fish you have is a hipo tang, not a blue damsel.

I would suggest that you either invest in a much larger tank for that fish or trade it in at your LFS. The minimum tank size requirement for a tang is about 120 gal. They grow large and and produce a lot of waste.

The algae isn't terrible, but getting rid of it can take awhile. Key to this is controlling nitrates and phosphates.

The amount of live rock in the tank looks a bit low. You may want to add more long term. Since the tank is established, you want to add it slowly once piece at a time. You want about 1 pound of LR per gallon of water by the time you are done.

Also beware of petco. At least locally I've never bought anything live n had it live. The fish on display are rarely kept there long so ur inured own. Find a good lfs n make pals. +1on the regal tang. Too big for the tank. But the tank looks great. Do really regular water changes until ur through with ur cycle ie showing trites trates etc. Have fun.

thank you for the information.i think i'll put more live rock in and start thinking about establishing a larger tank to transfer my tang over too.
