New to me used RSM130D build thread

Hi all. I recently picked up a used 130D. It’s in great shape but have a couple questions.

First my background. Been keeping fowlr tanks for 10 plus years. Current is a 150 fowlr with all the extra equipment you can imagine.

This is my first foray into BioCube and my goal is to build this out as a coral show piece.

1) it’s got a single pump that looks stock. Is there a way to identify the pump and the gph? I’m thinking of scrapping anyway and finding something with about 500gph flow but if the original is good enough ok.

2) I see people talk about a media shelf but I can’t find anything for the 130d in google. Anyone got a link? I’ve Frankenstein’ed my own before but if there is something made specifically for the 130d all the better.

3) ceramic rings? Yes or no? ( no bio balls for me )

Plan on using some floss for pre filter, skimmer, carbon, and something else.

Tia guys and great reading all you post.

:rbwwelc:to RS ! Post us some pics so we can follow along with your new build, we like tank pics of even just rock and water :nessie:

Here a couple links on your (sicce) circulation pump

on this... media shelf ... you have to remove the stock skimmer to add the stevieT media rack not a must...

On the ceramic rings? ... on my RSM 130D I used them as the media rack... before I build one to replace... but to do this you want to pull and rinse with water changes as they trap debris and become nitrate factories if you don't - hope this helps !

Thanks for the reply.

I just didn't think the pump was truly the 340gph pump so I replaced it with something a little stronger.

I am going to make my own media shelf using egg crate. I've done it before and works fine.

Not sure about the stock skimmer. Lots of different opinions but I've got a Red Devil Nano 150 that will fit the space with my home made media shelf that I've had success with so that's going in ( Only down side is have to leave the small lid space open for actual skimming...

Will probably give the ceramic rings a try since I'll have the space along with the standard carbon, filter floss and something else in the 4th slot...

Water being made as we speak and will start putting together tomorrow and will add some pics...

Man I can't wait...
