New maroon clown issue

Hi all, so I used to have a bonded pair of gold banded maroons in my old tank. I have set up my new one and added a gold banded about a 2 weeks ago. I wanted it to have a friend so I went out today and bought a regular maroon that was smaller in size in hopes that they would click. It seems the gold banded is not interested. As soon as they saw each other the gold banded went for the new one and the new one kinda was submissive. Now the gold banded quickly darts toward the new one and the new one swims to the other side of the tank and has stayed there. I know it takes time for them to bond, but wasn't sure if there was hope when they behaved like this.

You can leave them alone and see if they get together, but I'd say it's unlikely. Plan on returning one of them to your LFS if things don't work out.

yah, @DaveK nailed this one, usually with a much smaller one it's either a quick match or death... pairing clowns is very hit or miss
