I came home on Friday and the fish was gone. Now there are three chromis, plus the two clowns. /sigh. I'm going to focus on coral placement and hope these three can figure it out.

Like everyone else said, chromis will do that to each other. I had seven in a108 gallon and I'm down to one in a year. I wouldn't of bought them if I knew then that thats what they do.

Looks good Mayja....nice white sand & no diatoms or algae. :D
What are your plans for future additions?
Since you are adding corals now, you might want to ask one of the mods. to change your thread name to Mayja's 90gal.Reef or something like that.

Thank you! I would love it if it said Reef instead of FOWLR. I used the word ENGAGE in the title in case there were any Trekkies out there.

Future additions planned are a hammerhead, ricordia, toadstool leather, devil's hand leather, and more zoanthids. I have my coral plan on my other thread and I'll be using that as my guide.

My birthday is May 4th (May the 4th be with you!!), so I'm hoping I'll get some b-day funds for my protein skimmer and possibly some more corals.

So far, the remaining three chromis are alive and well (I better not be jinxing myself :banghead:). Check out my latest video (a few posts above) and you'll see them all happily swimming together. Every morning I come out to the tank, and those three are the first to greet me. No new wounds. No open sores. They might have found a happy medium.

Here are some pictures of my newest corals:

This is my new frogspawn that I picked up at one of my LFS during a sale:

Hey Mayja! My daughters birthday is May 4th and we say May the 4th be with you all the time when people ask about her birthday! Awesome! Love the new corals you grabbed. The leather is very cool and I love zoanthids alot!

You are Due an UPdate Mayja....How is Your tank progressing? Hope all is well! :)

Indeed! You are absolutely right, and I have much to report! I've been dealing with MAJOR house renovations (completely remodeled bathroom and now a complete roof replacement is about to begin) and this past weekend we were in MSP for fun with friends and a much needed break!

Soooo... the BIG news is that I got a new lighting system from a fellow reefer here in MI: AquaticLife R7S HID. Get this: it's only a year old and he "sold" it to me for $150. He basically said, "Happy Birthday" and that was that. I couldn't believe it! So, I need to take some photos and show you how it looks! He also gave me all the replacement bulbs he had bought: all ATI and Hamilton. Jackpot! He just upgraded to LEDs and didn't want such a nice piece of equipment sitting in his basement. He could have sold it for much more, but he wanted to make sure it went to someone who would REALLY appreciate it. He got that right!

My hubby and I drove downriver to a fish store called Tropicorium, which is supposed to be this mega awesome store, but I had never been there since it is about an hour drive away. I met up with the other reefer to swap for the lights, then we all went in to check out this HUGE store! We spent at least an hour there. I was able to pick up a Blue Spotted Watchman Goby and a very nice ricordea frag!

I promise... photos are on the way. I just need to unpack and get some other stuff done first.

Okay gang... this is a super, huge, GIGANTIC announcement. Most of you have been waiting for this post ever since I started my tank. I said I would do it as soon as I needed it, and now I do.

NEXT WEEK I'M INSTALLING A PROTEIN SKIMMER!!! It's the Bashsea Beckett Twisted 6x24.

That is all. :geekin:

New equipment is always fun!
What made you decide that you "need" it?

It has gotten to the point where I cannot remove enough nutrients with water changes alone. I've got slime algae on my glass all the time now. It started as soon as I upgraded my lights. I cut back my feeding and the time the lights are on, but nothing has helped. It's time to get some extra help!

I think you will appreciate having one when you see & smell what the simmer gets out.
I didn't have a skimmer when I had my 135g FOWLR & it did OK with the small bio-load of fish I kept.
I feel good about having a skimmer on my reef tank that works well. :girlthumb:

Added 10 cerith snails, 10 more nassarius snails and 5 more hermit crabs to the cuc yesterday. I noticed that some of my numbers were down, so it was time to boost them back up.

All but 2 of my new nassarius have been eaten by my peppermint shrimp. Next time, larger snails. /sigh

In other news, the skimmer is up and running! It needs to break in over the next week, but it's nice and QUIET, which was my biggest concern. We'll see what it starts to pull out of the tank. Plus, I'm now using Chemi-pure Elite as another source of filtration.

Even though I rinsed the bags, there was still some carbon that made it into the DT. It turned all of my pineapple sponges black! It's hilarious! My husband said that I should sell them as super rare sponges that come with their own carbon. Ha ha. I appreciate his enthusiasm for me to make some money back on the tank, but that wasn't the way I imagined it.

Good lights did the same to me also, to more hair algae and cyano, GFO helped a lot though since I don't use a skimmer.

This morning, my cat woke me up by jumping onto my chest with WET PAWS. "Uh oh," I thought. "That's not right." I sat up in bed and listened. "What is that horrible grinding sound? .... OH GOD!"

I lept from bed and sprinted to my tank, slipped on the linoleum and hit the floor. SPLASH! I had 2 inches of standing water in front of my tank. The grinding sound was from my fuge pump running dry and not having water to send back to the DT. Something happened with the new skimmer and it pumped 2/3's of my fuge water onto the floor.

Not a good way to start the morning.

I shut off the skimmer and replaced the fuge water (thank god I had 15 gallons of RO made in the basement). I put in about 7 gallons... enough to get the pump on and the flow moving again. I was planning to do a water change anyway, so I'll do that when I get home tonight to make sure the salinity isn't too low.

Now that the adrenaline rush is over, I'm going to see my back specialist on Friday because I think I just threw out my back again with that fall. Ouch.
