A very nice system.

I got a quick question for you, why UV and ozone on the system? That seems like overkill.

Welcome Marty and nice set up, an impressive amount of kit! lol

Sorry to hear of the white spot outbreak, how long into your fallow period are you?

I'd love some Pulsing Xenia, how do you keep yours in check?

Thanks for the comments.

With regards to ozone and UV running one is to clarify the other is to sterilise since having whitespot I will run them permanently.

I will keep tank fallow for 4 months I know it will be gone then.

The exina just seems to do fine even though it's a low nutrient system I do broadcast feed quite a bit and also dose a trace of iodine that exina is ment to love. It seems exina is one of them corals that some can keep and others struggle with it melting away mine is like on its own piece so only way it can spread is to jump if you like.

Thanks that has made for a very interesting read :)

Me deciding to go fallow for 4 months should rid my system of it completely and any fish that will enter my system now will go through copper in a QT beforehand

Here one more of Lee's post you may find interesting :nessie:

I have noticed many of our mates in the UK run UV, where here in the states it's pretty rare - having read several of your great post so far... I am sure you would agree there more than one way to run a tank, so I am not suggesting it's right or wrong to run one as I have seen many lovely tanks that do & don't... just thought you might enjoy this read too... I can tell you having followed many members that have defeated ich by following Lee's advice... it's very solid. Cheers - lots of great mates from across the pond here on RS, glad you have joined in ! :clink:

The UV for U and Me

Thanks I have noticed quite a difference in methods used depending on which country you are in.

A lot on other forums have commented on the fact I run both ozone and a UV but I do have crystal clear water which I like.

Some US reefs I have seen online are simply stunning and huge and they have entire sump rooms what I would give for a setup like that.

Well what with having no fish in for last month or there abouts I've been able to get ontop of water quality and parameters and got the doser setup now and have been slowly tweeking it and it's been stable for a while now.

I though I would add a few pictures of the corals all pictures are around 21 days apart to show the growth I've had in 21 days. The first picture will be the earliest pic followed by a picture take today :)

I'm very happy with the results so far :)

That's not all my corals but gives you an idea of the growth I'm getting I'm presuming this is good growth :)

Well it gets better !!!

Seems I had an infestation of red flatworms so went and got some flatworm exit one bottle treats 1200 litres I ended up adding 1 bottle and they was still moving so lost patience and got a second bottle and just dumped it in so that's enough treatment for 2400 litres !!!!

They are still alive and moving !!!

After having

Velvet
Dinoflagellates
White spot
Polyclad flatworms
Brown jelly
Bryopsis

And what ever else I've had along the way

I'm now at the point where I'm thinking of breaking it down running bleach through the system and then re-starting with all new dry rock and sand and go fish only this would also rid my system of WS and would be a fresh start this is something I will decide over the next few days.

Algae issues are going to be common in every new tank that has new live rock and sand (includes dinos and other algaes like bryopsis).

Do you dip your corals before going in the tank (or do you QT them)?

Do you QT all fish? Or do you medicate fish in a hospital tank before going into the main display?

Even though this is extra work up front, it can save you major headaches later on. It really can make a difference in enjoyment you can get out of your DT.

Seems like you are on the right track. I'd keep going and start to QT everything before it goes into the tank from now on.
