It's much faster when you're moving from an established tank to a new tank. In my case I had an RSM 250. So I setup the new tank and let it settle for a week. Then I moved the sand, live rock and critters over. I've done this in the past with no ill effects on the corals or fish. I think this is one of the best aspects of a Berlin style filter is that the biological filtration is carried out by the live rock itself. I don't keep any super sensitive fish or SPS corals.
